Container lids stay on but are purposely designed to fit loose enough to be easily removed by little fingers. (Not leakproof). The containers are recommended to be used with this EasyLunchbox cooler bag, carried upright.

We pack 3 lunch containers (morning snack, lunch, afternoon snack) for our daughter for daycare. We use a different luncbox so that we can fit all the drinks in too. If you opt to pack only 2 lunch containers, then there is plenty of room for drinks. Overall, it's a great lunch box system. The lunch bag is a great size for school too, I'd was worried that it would be big and bulky. Currently I use the bag to carry three bento containers on picnics.
